Westmount Chapter No. 9

Chapter Officers 2011-2012

A special meeting was held on Thursday, March 24th, 1921 in Victoria Hall, Westmount, to institute a brand new Chapter which would be called Westmount Chapter #9. The meeting was called to order by the Right Worthy Grand Secretary of the General Grand Chapter, Mr. Philip Jerguson.  The officers of Connaught Chapter #4 of Richmond, Que., assisted him in initiating the 34 new members and installing the new officers.

Seventy-two new members were initiated during that first year (an average of 6 per meeting)..

The first Worthy Grand Matron was Mrs. Blanche Shepard and the first Worthy Grand Patron was Mr. Duncan H. MacLeod (who had a Chapter named after him).

Meetings were held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month  except during July and August and the first meeting took place on April 13th, 1921 at 8:15 p.m.  As you can imagine, a lot of business was conducted at that first meeting.  One of the motions was that the annual dues be $3.00, payable at the rate of 25 cents per month from time of initiation to the end of the year.  Another was that the Secretary should receive a grant of $25 per year and the Treasurer, $5.  The rent for Victoria Hall at that time was $31.25 per month and the secretary submitted a bill of  $5.60 for a minute book, stamps, phone calls, etc. 

In 1999, Westmount Chapter amended its By-laws to change its meetings from the fourth Wednesday of the month to the fourth Thursday, except during July and August, and except December, when it is the third Thursday.  They now meet in KCK First Presbyterian Church on Godfrey Avenue in Montreal where their monthly rent is a lot more that $31.25!
