Our Beginnings: Owl's Head #35, Mansonville, Quebec. 1947-2009

Sister Ann Harvey PGM had a dream. She was a member of Maple Leaf # 2. In 1947 she was residing in Mansonville. Sister Ann wanted to start an O.E.S. chapter in Mansonville. She enlisted the help of the Worshipful Master of St. John's Lodge #27 AF and AM, the late Brother Arthur Aiken Sr. In 1947 her dream became reality.

The name “Owl's Head” was chosen as Mansonville lies in the shadow of Owl's Head Mountain, a famous Masonic land-mark to which Masons from far and near make a yearly pilgrimage to hold a meeting in the only natural out-door Lodge known on this Continent.

On May 22, 1948 a special meeting of the Grand Chapter of Quebec, O.E.S. was called for the purpose of Constitution and the presentation of our Chapter. Sister Mary Bailey is our Charter Member and Organist. She was the first organist, playing a pump organ belonging to her Grandmother. On February 25 1982 -We received 5 members from Pinnacle Chapter of Sutton when they surrendered their Charter. We consolidated on December 17, 1994 with Beaver Chapter # 7 of Waterloo Quebec.

We have an annual church service and luncheon. Each summer we participate in the multi-cultural parade along with our Masonic Brothers.

Our first Worthy Grand Matron was Sister Eileen Eldridge in 1979-80, then came Sister Marjorie Newell 1991-92, Worthy Grand Patron Brother Fred Lengacher in 1994-95, and Brother Russell Lawrence 2001-02. Past Grands acquired by consolidation include Brother Clarence Allen1990-91, Sister Dora Graves 1958-59, Sister Helen Ramsay 1973-74, Sister Marion Rowe 1960-61, and Sister Mildred Wheelock.
In 1947 our membership totalled 28. In 2009 our membership totals 36.

We are grateful to our members for their dedicated work as we celebrate sixty-two years since Sister Ann Harvey, P.G.M. first had her dream.

This information is taken from the booklet prepared by Mary Bailey on our 50th Birthday. Thanks Mary.

Marjorie Newell, P.G.M, Secretary #35
