We enjoyed a wonderful pot-luck dinner, a very nice meeting, and a really FUN auction, we laughed till we hurt! Well, that was fun! The hall was beautiful! We started with refreshments - thanks Charlie!. We talked and talked all night. The food was great, the music and dancing lasted for hours. The prizes were fabulous. We learned about Chinese auctions - that got pretty wild! We thanked the Committee on Arrangements, especially our Chair, Barbara Wheaton, PGM and the convenor, Sister Maria Roussakis, and of course the many cooks. The WGM, Sister Brenda and WGP Brother Art, gave thank-you gifts to the Committee on Arrangements. Go here to see the pictures.

Visit Crescent #75.
2140 Walkley Rd, Ottawa, Ontario. Pot Luck dinner 5:30. Meeting 7:30. Lady Grand Officers in Official Dress (white) Ninteen members from Quebec braved pouring rain and dense fog to visit Crescent Chapter for their 87th birthday. Our Worthy Grand Matron, Sister Brenda Stone, and Worthy Grand Patron, Art Shore accompanied by five of our Grand Officers made a nice showing and all were seated in the East. Before the meeting we were served a great dinner of chicken stew served by the Worthy Matron, Sister Donna Lee and her Conductress, Sister Diane Arbockle. We then enjoyed yummy desserts from Newfoundland: Partridge berry and bake apple cheese cakes. After a great meeting, with 42 sideliners, we sang a special and unique Happy Birthday song to Cresent Chapter and enjoyed ice cream and birthday cake. Click here for pictures.

School of Instruction. Randell Hall, Chambly (meeting place of Friendship-Victoria #54; 10:00 a.m.; lunch at noon, served by the members of Friendship-Victoria #54 ($6.00); resume at 1:00 p.m. Go here for the invitation from the Grand Secretary. All officers and members are welcome. Please remember to bring your Ritual, Constitution, and Book of Instruction. All officers, especially new first-time officers (and new members) are encouraged to attend. Much information will be discussed, as well as changes planned. Chapter "Delegations" should give a report on the School of Instruction back in their own Chapters for the benefit of those who cannot attend. We are indebted to Sister Bobby Hall, PGM and Sister Brenda Shaw-Radford, PGM for a very effective School of Instruction. The Grand Officers opened and closed "Angelica" chapter. Invited members filled the stations for initiation, balloting, memorial, and affiliation. Friendship Victoria Chapter #54 provided lunch for a small charge. Our newest members sat in an elevated position on the stage for a birds-eye view of the ceremonies. Several lively discussions were had and we all came away better prepared to perform our duties in our own chapters. We were sad that our Worthy Grand Matron was ill on this day, the School was a big success! Sister Brenda would have been proud of us (as if she wasn't already!)

February 15, 16, & 17, 2008

On February 15, 16 & 17, 2008, the Can-Am Weekend will be held in Montreal, Quebec.  Nine other jurisdictions will join Quebec in a celebration of Fraternal Friendship.  Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are the Canadian Jurisdictions participating.  From the United States we expect members from Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The get-together will begin on Friday with an Evening Buffet Dinner.  On Saturday evening there will be a Banquet followed by entertainment.  Then on Sunday, the Divine Service will have the participation of all the Grand Chaplains and Grand Organists and a Choir with members drawn from all jurisdictions.

We are calling on all interested members to come and join us for a wonderful weekend escape.

The Friday Buffet will be at 6:00 PM (dress casual) after which some of us will be off to Old Montréal to enjoy the lighted buildings, the sights, sounds, smells, and the Joie de Vivre always on tap there. Bring your warm clothing, hats, gloves, boots, and have a good time with us. Or, just hang at the hotel and renew old friendships and find out how many new friends you can make. The hospitality room will be open most of the time, check the events desk for the times.

Saturday morning will be a tour of the Shriners' Hospital for Children, and you are encouraged to wear your official (or unofficial) traveling attire. We Quebecers will be wearing our tartans. Or, you can take advantage of the Metro station across the street from the hotel and strike out for new horizons. Saturday afternoon will find us at a meeting, (3:00 PM) where you will enjoy a degree like you have never seen before. We guarantee you will have fun at this. You are encouraged to wear your official dresses to the meeting; we want to see you in all your finery. Someone from each jurisdiction will be taking part in the meeting and degree, and everyone wants to see all the outfits! Saturday night is our big banquet - formal. We will have entertainment that will steal your hearts: ballroom dancing, and are they good! Then a costume contest of members dressed to reflect the themes of their own jurisdictions. Who will win??? (Click here for the costume contest entry form and rules.)

Sunday we will meet in casual clothing for our divine service prepared for you by the Organists and Chaplains of all the jurisdictions, with a choir! Then, sadly, we will part, but with promises to meet again!

Nearly 320 attended this fun-filled weekend! We survived the cold, some even going for a night excursion into Old Montréal to walk! All the meals were well served and attended, although we saw fewer at breakfast than at dinner. The meeting saw a very unusual initiation, thank you to the "new" initiates for your sense of humor. The banquet was a blast with all of us hanging from the rafters with laughter at some of the skits. (Did you ever see so many rabbits? And that cow, well....) We met lots of new friends for life, connected with friends of long standing, talked into the wee hours, and did what we do. Great fun.
I have finally made my way through the first day pictures and have them posted here. Second and third day Pictures are here.
